Hmm, deep one. It’s like recalling a dream that leaves you feeling void of hope and buoyancy even after waking. Similarly, my interpretation is actually the process of one continuously recalling a memory. It’s known that every time one attempts to recall a memory, it changes. And with every surfacing of this experience comes a subtle difference, even if the emotions attached to it are just as heavy and soul churning. I feel this is the feeling of one ruminating on the same moment again and again, sending themselves down their own spiral of insanity, panic, pain. I do wonder what the pigeon represents? Maybe it’s a sinister overseer of what we call the cupid of love? Or maybe it’s us gazing at our own pity as we desperately reach for the crumbs, and the crumbs being our even pitier desire of redoing the past? In any case, the uneasiness of this piece is felt. I truly enjoyed it.

Thank you for reading and engaging with the work, Braylynn.

I appreciate your interpretation of the poem, particularly this bit: “I feel this is the feeling of one ruminating on the same moment again and again, sending themselves down their own spiral of insanity, panic, pain. “

The title and the spiral imagery found throughout the piece point are meant to communicate that spiraling rumination you describe. It’s an endless loop of remembering and rejecting until eventually– well, this is where I leave it up to the reader to interpret things. You suggest that the Danny lost himself in insanity or pain. Perhaps he did. The ambiguous nature of the piece allows for a reader to put their own experiences within the forefront and asks them to reflect on how they managed this spiral. I myself have a different interpretation of the ending from you, but my vision is not the be all end all. Afterall, painful experiences come with a typhoon of different colliding emotions that push and pull the individual in every direction. It’s all about how you, the individual, goes through Danny’s journey.

PS–the pigeon is an interesting figure, isn’t it? I leave that up to your interpretation as well. ^_^

Thank you again for reading my work and seriously thinking about it.
